Im new to the site but im hoping someone can help me im at my wits end!..i hope im poting in the right place!
I seperated from my husband in feb and moved in with a new partner.we registered straight away with council tax and we were put on the electoral roll a few weeks later. My husband stayed in the marital home until it had to be sold because he didnt pay the mortgage, we had to sell to one of those 'sell your house quick' companies!..we came out of it with nothing! not a penny.
Anyway i recieved a bill for the council tax for the marital home in both our names, infact it was from the bailiffs ROSSENDALES.They said because no one had been n contact it had been to court and they wanted payment in full!
I called them straight away and said i was prepared to pay half and gave them my husbands new address, they wouldnt agree to my payment offer and said they wanted the whole bill payed in 3 instalments, which i couldnt do as i am on benefits and 7 months pregnant and not working. They have now started to prepare paper work to pass it to the van department for collection of money or goods, they will not go after my husband only me as he is not registered at his new home for council tax!...and he wont answer there letters, so ive been paying what i can, but what the hell will happen now?...there isnt goods to the value of £1200 in the house i dont think, will i be able to make an arrangement with the bailiffs? or will they take everything out of the house?...im really really stressed out nw, im not sleeping and my blood pressure is through the roof!...the ex husband isnt answering phone and has basically left me with it to deal with xxx

Hi and Welcome
Sorry you are having such a tough time - espcially as you are pregnant at the moment.
Someone will hopefully be along with some proper advice but in the meantime I just wanted to say never let baliffs into your house - don't open the door to them even. This is a useful website that is run by one of MSE members -

Hi
Have you tried calling the Council tax department and asking them if you are liable and if there is anything they can do?0 -
Hi is it ok not to let the bailiffs in? and can they take goods that are on finance?, i have spoken to the council and they have made both of us liable and they can go after either one of us, because i have registered as paying council tax now at my new address they are going after me!.....Rossendales said they dont require my ex husbands address they only have to have mine and they are hel bent on making me pay the whole debt.theres no give and take with them ive xplained the whole situation and they have refused point blank to listen to me, what the heck am i supposed to do, i am willing to pay the debt just cant do it at the rate they want..basically all of it!:money:0

Hi,
if you let the baliffs into your house you are opening the door for them to take whatever they want. dont invite them in and dont let them put their foot in the door either as they can them get in the house, where i live they can get come into a house, other parts of the country, especially down south are different.
With regards to your ex, i think you should speak to the citizens advice. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
