CitiCard

Hi im a new member been lurking here for months and got some good advice.
I recon I will be paid up by August, i have a question though about CitiCard.
I recieved a default letter from them asking for the the account to be brought into line by 19/05/06 the amount owing is £600 and a limit of £250.
My question is what happens next? I phoned them tonight to ask if I can settle and close this account with a lower amount but to no avail. I tried to explain that at least 50% of the total were for charges ( late payment and over limit). What they did offer was £75 off the amount if i settled now over the phone there and then. Amazingly this would bring my account into order and I could have my card back.
Has anyone else managed to do a deal with CitiCard on a settlement firgure, I have been told by an Iva consultant that they are notoriously unforgiving.
I know ive come straight into the forums with this but as i say I have been lurking for months and some good advice has got me back into the real world with money left at the end of the month.
Thanks for any advice.

    Hi
I don't know a lot about Citicard, but I do know that if it is a credit card and you have had a default brought about by the fact that they have charged you for non-payment, late payment and over limit charges, you have every right to ask them for your charges to be refunded and have the default removed. I have a debt with Citicard, I have found them to be very unhelpful reeeally when trying to repay a debt. I made them an offer in writing to settle the debt. 3 months later they said they would accept my offer. I wrote to them asking them to send me a formal letter stating that they would aaaccept the amount offered in full and final payment and no further payments would be sought. I also told them that my next payment would be included in the settlement payment. I had 3 weeks before next payment was due. Two months down the line I had heard nothing from them aalthough I had repeatedly written to them requesting the formal acceptance letter. Then eventually 4 months after the initial acceptance letter, I get a letter telling me they were not prepared to accept the amount offered in final payment. I wrote to them asking for the name and address of their complaints department to make a formal complaint against them. Then by return of post I get a letter from a solicitor acting on their behalf telling me I am in default of my account as no payments had been made and they do not have to honour the acceptance of my offer.
I subsequently wrote to the Financial ombudsman service about this, they said that Citi did not have to honour the acceptance, but they did find Citi's responses to my letter very poor and awarded me £100 in compensation. I am now back on my previous agreement payments with them, but I have had trouble with interest being added even though interest charges had been frozen. Trying to get written confirmation of agreements out of them is like trying to get blood out of a stone. I think they are very unprofessional and not to be trusted.

Why don't you just start to claim back the charges? Plus if you have to put a claim into court you will be able to add the court costs and 8% interest on top.

Thanks for your replies. I agree with you mm2000 citicard are very unhelpful, and any comunication with them is like pulling teeth. I think i will just bite the bullet and cough up.
I have no problem paying what I owe them its just that I think the charges are excessive for the amount of work involved. But if it means getting shot of this millstone then they can have it.
On a lighter note I phoned Nationwide today to pay off my overdraft £600 and I just asked them what they would accept as a final payment to clear the account. "what can you offer?" my reply was £350 " can you make it £400". So waited a few seconds and said "yes I think I can just about do that"
So there we go it can be done £200 saved by a 5 minute phone call. And I was going to pay the full £600.

    HAPPY DAYS
