In the post today I received 2 letters, one from CitifFinancial, informing me that as of March 2004 my debt with them had been reassigned to 1st Credit. I have been fielding letters from 1st Credit for years!
The 2nd was from 1st Credit offering me a 30% full and final. This is for a debt they have never been able to verify is mine! They have consistently failed to respond to any letters, and the debt, which I do not acknowledge as I have never had anything with Citifinancial, is definitely over 7 years old. Especially if it w
as assigned to them in 2004, it can't have been a new debt even then.

Hi
1st credit definatley don't seem to be short of nerve!
What letters have you sent them in the past?
Do you know what the debt was for originally or think you know? or do you think it isn't your debt at all?
Have you sent the 'prove it' letter - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Hi
I am fairly certain the debt isn't mine at all. I have sent numerous letters including CCA requests, (for which they returned my P.O and said I had to contact Citifinancial) and they have never been able to give me any evidence of the debt. I did have a loan years ago with the Associates, but that was paid off and was for nowhere like the £2300 they are asking for.
According to Experian, the agreement was taken out in February 2003 at a former address and I was not at that address at the time, but due to the circumstances, I left most of my stuff behind.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

In that case you may need to complain to OFT.
Not sure which address you have used for 1st credit in the past but you could send a copy of your letter to the OFT to the compliance officer at 1st credit
If you look on this thread you might find some useful info (plus their compliance officers name address and email appear on posts 35 and 37)

I've just checked my credit file again, with both Experian and Equifax and SURPRISE SURPRISE, this is not on it anywhere, so even if the debt was mine, which I doubt and the lack of replies shows that they can't prove it. So should I just ignore them or maybe send the statute barred letter?Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

Posted this thread a while ago, updating it because neighbour has just passed in a letter that went to them by mistake.
1st Credit are offering a 35% discount off the debt. That up to now they have never proven.
Do I re-iterate to them that they need to prove it, or just send them the statute barred letter and be done with it. Its no longer on my credit file with either Experian or Equifax.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0
