in Cutting tax
Hi everyone. I am owed £1,100 in tax from the Tax year 2007/2008 whilst I was working on a student placement I was on emergancy tax for the full year without realising. I was made redundant 2 weeks ago and I am looking to claim the figure back to use for driving lessons now I have the free time to do it.
I have started a claim for JSA, but I have heard that you cant claim for the overpayment of tax until that claim ends. So would I be better off not claiming JSA and putting in a claim for overpayment of tax as an unemployed person instead?
Thanks

If you are claiming JSA, the the JC makes your tax refund when your claim ends, or the end of the tax year, whichever comes first.
However, your claim is for a previous tax year and so you need to claim that yourself. Just write to your tax office setting out all your jobs during 07-08 and asking for the refund.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
Although the tax office will probably have your pay and tax details, its always worth sending your 2007/08 P60 in case they haven't..saves any further delay for you.0

Before sending anything in phone the tax office. If you can confirm your employment history for the period of time that you wish to make the claim for then the advisor will be able to request an assessment for you.
If you claimed any JSA in the tax year that you want to claim the repayment for, then you should get the details of how much was claimed and have that ready to give to the advisor.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.
