Waiting for the Bombs to Land..!!

Hi all,

if you remember I posted several weeks ago re: our £60k Debt in loans, Overdrafts, CC's and Store Cards.

I was considering a Never Never Consolidation Loan or whacking it on the already Maxed out mortgage, (Which I knew we didn't want, and probably couldnt get) and your comments confirmed it, AVOID at all costs, speak to Payplan or CCCS.

So after your excellent recommendations re Payplan / CCCS I contacted Payplan who so far have been excellent. Really friendly, very understanding and knowledgable staff, superb I cannot fault them.

So, we are now at the stage where Payplan have said they will take us on, suggested a workable budget and they will now negotiate with our creditors with whats left and hopefully sort this mess out. They have contacted all our 15 Creditors and some have replied with current balences (the first stage) etc, but some have not replied to them at all.

And then whilst phoning Tesco Personal Finance to cancel my payment protection plan as per Payplan instruction the customer service operative advised me that Tesco would NOT talk to Payplan at all and would only deal with me. She said I needed to phone this number she gave me and arrange a payment plan direct with Tesco.

I told Payplan this and they advised (sometimes) some companies will only deal with the person direct but at this stage to simply keep Payplan informed of any commincation Tesco send to me.

Other than that we have had no communication what so ever from any of the creditors. I cannot help feeling this is the quiet before the storm and all of a sudden we will be inundated with nasty letters and phonecalls and all hell will break loose and we will feel like !!!!!! again....!!

Where are we..?

Anyone else had a similar experiences with Tesco or Payplan / creditors in the early stages..?

Cheers Guys

dont panic!!!!! i am with payplan and have/had! a tesco credit card.......they were fine i had just under £2,000 on my card and my payments are arond £9 a month......they excepted and have never given me any hassle.

Just keep in touch with payplan and im pretty sure tesco will co-operate (unless others have experienced otherwise)?? my guess is tesco want to deal with you to see if they can get more money out of you......dont worry just stick with payplan they were great with me

Tesco's may have said that because of the Data Protection Act. They will probably need something in writing from you to let them know they can speak to Payplan in your place.

I'm sure Payplan will let you know though.

    Best of luck.

Payplan have been brilliant with me. I had some creditors saying similar that they would not deal with anyone other than me. Some I think did it to scare/pressure me and some because of the data protection law. I signed a form stating Payplan were acting for me and then all accepted.

Stick in there. All will be ok I am sure.

I have a Tesco loan and Payplan are having problems paying them from my account. I have had no correspondence from them at all. I was expecting a default letter.......but I have had nothing!! I wonder if they have fogotten or they are letting me off (yeah right!). I only had about £1500 to pay on a 10 grand loan.
At the moment I am leaving it with Payplan.

I will let you know of any further developments.
Proud to be dealing with my debts

I work for Royal Bank of Scotland group, we have Tesco credit card.

Dunno why but we will only speak to cardholder direct, not payplan.

They do say its data protection but then other companies are willing to speak with payplan...

    Good luck

One reason why Tesco won't deal through anyone else is because they seem to act reasonably without the need for a third party. Tesco are the only one of my creditors who have not sold the debt on. They are business like in their approach but quite straightforward. 'Be fair and honest with us and we'll be fair with you' seems to be the motto.
They will issue a default as a matter of course and your statements will still arrive. BE WARNED - the statements WILL show interest even if they have FROZEN it. Their system still churns them out apparantly but I was told to ignore them and i have it in writing that interest has been stopped. But it did give me one hell of a shock when they came through!!
I guess the downside is they will expect to be paid back every penny unlike debt collection agencies who may accept less to settle the debt (after a few years) but I don't have a problem with that. After all I borrowed the money!

Thanks MSE for helping me budget and therefore increase payments from £30 per month to £150

I still receive my tesco credit card statement from tesco, this is after 2 years with payplan. It does however have the interest added as £0 ecery month.
was wondering why it hadnt been passed on to a debt collection agent.
