Old Argos item info needed, can anyone help please?

I need to find out info about a particular item Argos sold last year. It's a Goodmans cd player that sold for around £20 or £30.

Does anyone have an old Spring /Summer or even Autumn/Winter book that they could look in for me? .....I can't remember when it was bought.

Son's player was left in a 'friend's' house and I'm not convinced the one I was handed back today is the same one that son left there.

The model number on the one I have here is GPS214PLLR. If anyone has an old book and could check what the Goodmans models were that sold for around that price, I'd be very grateful.

Looks very similar to this model in the current catalogue:

    hi
ive checked the earlier 2 catalogues and the only ones which could fit are the same as in the new catalogue which you have pictured gps160,the only thing to change is the price

    £29.99
    £27.99
    £24.99

    no sign of the
GPS214PLLR u have but as the number suggests this could be from an even earlier catalogue, maybe someone will have a autumn/winter 2004 cat from the ro days:D
  • goodmans do have the nack of sending in substitutes, so the one in the book might not have been the one given out originally

Got a really strong feeling I've been conned.

Thanks very much for checking for me, much appreciated.

It's definately not before the Autumn/Winter 2004 catalogue....I'm sure it was last year as son bought it to go on a school trip.

Looks like the model I was given might be an even older one and could have been bought from elsewhere. I know our one was bought from Argos but if they haven't got this model listed then it's either not ours or it was a substitute. I think I would have remembered if we had been given a substitute at time of purchase though.

I think I'd better wait until son comes home at the weekend before going back to this person to complain. I'll just have to hope son can confirm or deny this is the right player.

    Thanks again.

Or is the GPS214PLLR a newer model? Is a PLL radio a better feature?

It can be found on the Goodmans site

    http://www.goodmansdigital.co.uk/Portable_Stereo/GPS214PLLR.htm#

(the site works best with IE)

but for the instruction book it says "coming soon".

It appears they use the same picture for the GPS214PLLR and the GPS160R (shown as GPD160R in the product range)

Every model but ours. It seems strange to me that there is no mention of the model number we have in any book.

Thanks very much for taking the time. I've printed off the pictures of the ones listed above so that son can compare. There's not a huge difference in appearance between models so it's useful to refer to the others just so we can try to remember what type of volume control for example, son's one actually had.

There's a good argument here for photographing your belongings before they leave your home. :(

as has been previous said, if goodmans dont have that specific model instock, they will often send us the closest alternative they have rather than send us nothing at all (it means more sales for them, afterall).

to legally offer an item as a substitute, it has to be of at least the same specification, if not higher, and we have to draw your attention to this at the till. (which is rather silly in a way, because we tell people they may recieve a substitue, and get all het up...ironically when most of them are buying the cheapest brand of the cheap anyway  :D ...and more often than not, they will get the original one as described in the catalogue anyway
