Hey, so next September, my partner and I are having our civil partnership. What we need help with is compiling a list of all the things you guys think we need to arrange. Its all the small things that we need help to think of, and being 2 guys (albeit gay ones
) we are a wee bit lost with what else we should arrange.
We have booked our venue, where we will be having the ceremony and the reception, and we have paid the deposit for the registrar. We are both going to be wearing kilts.
What other things would you all suggest we take into account when we are organising all this?

Well if it helps ill go through my list of to-do's obviously missing out wedding dresses!!
Have you thought about how you're going to decorate the venue? Flowers for tables, or if not flowers, candles or balloons.
Some people have 'favours' for their guests. Traditionally a sugared almond or two in an organza bag palced at each place setting. Google favours for more modern ideas.
Does your venue provide evening entertainment or will you need to sort this yourselves
Do you want a professional photographer and/or videographer
What music do you want for the ceremony and what if any readings would you like.
Have you organised Invites? RSVP cards, Thank You cards? Order of the day sheets, a table plan if you're having a formal sit down meal, Placecards for your tables?
Are you going to have a wedding cake?
What wedding rings you want and ordered them ready
Are you having a best man/men? If so, organise their outfits and getting them a gift to say thank you
Also will you be needing any transport, wedding cars etc
Hope that helps a bit! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
depends how much you wanna organise. How deep into it.
I mean I was completely thrown when there was a thread on here about what perfume to wear on the day - had never crossed my mind but a good point.
Food would be the next thing on my list if I were you. And cake
How about flowers?
guest list?
how are you getting to the venue?"I know that Prince Charming doesn’t come save me, we save each other and fight back to back against all comers that’s what marriage is to me. Nothing passive, no being carried off on a white steed, give me my own damn horse and lets ride into the sunset side by side." - Laurell K. Hamilton.0 -
Thanks for the replies so far.
Food we can pick from Feb 2010, as the venue updates their menu price every Feb. Table plans and place cards come as part of the package.
Haven't decided on wedding rings yet.
We haven't picked invites yet, but we plan on doing that soon. How soon would you send these out? Obviously not right now, but 3 months before? 4 months?
We've looked at a few favours, just need to decide on what we want.
We don't need any transport as we are staying at the hotel the night before, having the ceremony, then staying the night there again.
Still to organise a photographer.
My brain is becoming numb with all the things we've still to do....0 -
It also depends on how camp or not you want the day to be.
You could have some living statues, some drag artistes as entertainment or even a band or something else.
Get yourself a copy of the Gay Wedding Organizer from https://www.gayweddingorganizer.co.uk - they will send you a free copy and that is full of ideas for a gay wedding, its full of tips and of course it has adverts in it but these give you ideas. I use the Gay Wedding Organizer all the time as its just fab but then it contains unusual suppliers such as living statues...without being rude straight weddings can be a bit boring and the organizer directories aimed at heterosexuals don't contain the more unusual suppliers.
Have you got the honeymoon sorted too? You'll definitely need one of those.
Congratulations by the way - I hope you have a long and happy life together.0 -
Thanks Horace, both of us are very un-camp. We did agree that for a laugh we when the DJ announces the first dance, he will play the intro to YMCA before playing the correct song. I'll look up that website though, sounds as if it might be a good help.0

Hi CG, Congratulations - we're a female couple also organising our CP for April!
Have you thought about music to enter/sign register/exit to?
Also - are you having any readings/who's doing them?
Do you want table/room decorations? Favours?
Have you thought about the guest list?
Do you need music/DJ for the evening? -sorry just read your last post about dj! Blame it on a long day!

We've got music for signing the register and leaving, but nothing for entering so far. We don't want anything traditional, we want kinda upbeat and fun.
I would like to have a reading too, something that says something about our relationship, but not sure where to start with that one.0 -
The registrar gave us a booklet with some in but there was also a thread on here not very long ago & there was some lovely ones (made me all emotional!)
We're walking in to "Here come the girls!""Normal is not something to aspire to - it is something to get away from" - Jodie Foster0 -
Here come the girls - lol
We are fortunate in that the council in which we are having our ceremony has only recently started allowing "ceremonies" rather than just the signing of the documents so the registrar, who was lovely, didn't have a lot to say except to let them know before hand what we want to put into the ceremony.0 -
