Ownhome Scheme - refused mortgage by Co-operative bank...

I managed to catch the Government's "Ownhome Scheme" just before it closed and have funding secured with PfP on a bungalow (August). I was very surprised to discover a default notice entered on my credit file by a Company called HFO Services when I applied for my mortgage with the Co-operative. I wrote to HFO several times by recorded delivery to get further information and eventually got a reply that the default dated from 2004 for a Barclaycard taken out in 2000. They say they do not have further information but will contact Barclaycard to try and obtain a copy of the original agreement. My credit history has been excellent -earlier this year rated at 893 with Experian. I bank with the Co-operative and also have a loan from 2006 with perfect re-payments to them. No problem then. I have appealed to the Co-operative (who said they referred it to underwriters) but the appeal has been rejected. This scheme is tied exclusively (I am told) to a Co-operative mortgage. Is there anything I can do?

Did you take out a Barclaycard in 2000? Are you aware of defaulting at all on it? As the Co-Op are exclusively the lender for this scheme then your only hope is to show that the default is not yours. As the Co-Op will only accept squeaky clean.

  • Hi...I just wondered where you got your info about this scheme from please? I am a PFP tenant who was offered an opportunity to buy my own home, which i dont want to do, but do want to move. Could you buy any available PFP home or in fact, any home anywhere? Either I have missed a great opportunity or the offer I had was to buy my home only. I seem to be missing out on Govt scheme info and dont know where to look for it. Thanks.
