Do you have a Sports Soccer shop near you? You can get some good bargains from there. My recent purchase was trackie bottoms for about £4.50. They have various different kinds, but you have to have a good look around as sometimes the dearer ones get mixed in.

Yup I was going to suggest Sports World too. Discovered it only a couple of weeks ago and managed to kit out my 10 year old in quality trackie bottoms, T-Shirts trainers and sweatshirt very cheaply. I think they tend to be located in retail parks or the like. Don't know what the deal is but think they must sell discontinued stock.

    Personal advice.
Dont send him in trackie bottoms, give him shorts for wear during the day and 1 pair of bottoms if it gets cold in the evening.

reasoning: If he gets wet he can wipe his legs and the shorts wont be too heavy if they are soaked or take too long to dry.
If he gets muddy wash his legs wash the shorts too if they are really bad they wont take too long to dry.
If they are walking and everyone is in wet trackies they will be heavy and end up knackered your son in shorts can carry a spare pair in his pocket and change if he needs to. and carry a small towel to wipe his legs.
Wet trackies get very cold in the wind and he will be cold wipeing and drying his legs will keep him warmer in bad conditions.

Yeah when I was young in cubs I thought bull!!!! too but it really works I have walked and camped in both shorts and long pants in all contitions and shorts have always been best.

Thanks for all your advice. I will check out the places suggested.

Little John - unfortunately it;s a school list I'm following - they are abseiling , sailing and climbing that week and the school are very specific about what we need to send. When we camp it's shorts and wellies whenever we can!
