1st Credit and Royal Mail

Dear All,
Thanks in advance for any advice given, what I read on this site is clearly invaluable to many people, so I hope you can also point me in the right direction.
I received a letter from 1st Credit chasing a debt that is statute barred. I sent the standard letter saying so, by recorded mail on the 10th of September. Yesterday I received a follow up letter demanding payment and stating that 1st Credit was going to start legal proceedings.
I have checked the status of the recorded mail and it has been registered that I sent it, but after that there is no status. Royal Mail tell me nothing. They say it is probably in the system somewhere and can take 15 wording days to arrive! I have little faith that it is going to arrive, but my pessimistic side says that also it may have arrived and 1st Credit are simply ignoring it and sending out more letters.
Do I send the statute barred letter again, or wait to see if the first one arrives, or send the letter saying that I have informed them that the debt is statute barred and to stop hassling me?
Any and all insight gratefully received. I hope the above all makes sense.

Hi Roland
Not sure what to advise you on this one. Was the address you sent it to a PO Box? As if it was I think I am right in saying people have had problems with recorded delivery and PO Boxes. Thats not to say that 1st credit haven't had your letter or course - they are very good at delaying and being difficult.
Might well be that they have had your letter but know it won't show as signed for, wouldn't put it past them.
I wonder if it might be worth sending a second letter to a non PO Box address telling them you have already informed them its statute barred and you do not intend to pay and stop hassling you or you'll report them and at the same time refer and enclose a copy of your original letter.
Alternatively you could try sending the SB letter again
Here is an alternative address you could try - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=18927371&postcount=15A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Hi Tixy,
Thanks for that. The original address was a PO BOX. I think that I am going to resend the original statute barred letter to both the PO BOX and the other address you gave me there.
Let's turn the tables and bombard them with letters.

If it was sent to a PO Box recorded delivery i have been told by a post office they have problems delivering them sometimes. but also a DCA Link Financial wouldnt give me a proper postal address and told me the women at the post office didnt have a clue what she was talking about.
Give it 15 days (working days) and then chase up to Post office.
GOne day some company will do what they say they will do and charge a fair charge.:T
Not doing the opposite of that which they promise and charge you a fortune for the privileged.
Or maybe not:mad:0
