In court with the tax man

I'm in court with the tax man tomorrow. He wants 4.5k from about 7 years ago. Hoping he'll let me off with a reasonable payment plan but not holding my breath as he offered me one three years ago and I didn't pay it.

  • can i ask why you didnt pay before? i think there is a good chance the judge would want to know why. If you can explain why you didnt pay then hopefully the judge will look favourably on you

Various reasons mainly my wages dropping by 50% and having rather expensive school fees to pay. I make no excuses here I should have paid but couldn't afford it so to be truthfull I deserve whatever they throw at me. Little vexed that at the time I was unaware that I owed anything I was assured I was payin everything up front. Needless to say I got no help from the umbrella company I was with at the time.
  • is there anyway you can stretch the truth with regard to your I&E during the last three years? not sure the judge will be too impressed that you paid school fees over a tax debt.

I would go armed with as much information as possible so that when they do ask you have a detailed answer

Just shows what a fool I am. To me the school fees were more important. Book him Danno, murder one!
