Let me last until June 20th

Sorry I needed to post a bit of a personal plea. I'm a student, only 2 weeks away from starting my full time job after graduating. I have approximately £35 in the bank, practically everything I own is on Amazon and my first paycheck comes in on June 20th. What do you suggest I do? I've paid the minimum payments on my Amex for up to then (which is my highest) so I'm ok there. I think I'll need to put £31 on my water card, pay a mobile phone bill, and I'll probably have a few £10 or less minimum payments on my other cards. I'm hoping the boyfriend will help out with the food and he's offered to pay my car tax.

I'm not relying on being able to sell my amazon stuff, but if I can this should cover me. If not I have two options:

1 - Call the companies and tell them that I can't pay until the 20th June
2 - Ask boyfriend to bail me out there too

What do you guys think? It so annoying as I know that when I start working I can afford to overpay my bills!

I guess it depends on how you feel about asking the boyf to bail you out. He sounds like a nice chap btw

Personally, I'd call the companies and explain the situation and see what they say/ offer for the short interim period.

But if you are starting the new job soon - will you need any extra money for things like suitable outfits and how will you get there? Car? Will you need extra for petrol and parking?

Good luck - I hope everything sells on Amazon

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

The 20th of June is not far away, I would let your boyfriend help and then pay him back.

if you have managed to always pay at least the minimum on your cards and so have a good credit record, then the option of delaying payments now is the absolutely last thing to do. Dont spoil your credit record for such a short term problem.

if BF is willing to bail you out for this short period then that seems fine to me
also you may consider asking your bank for a higher overdraft limit in the context of your salary starting in June and your previous good record.
you dont say what the credit limits are on your cards, but for this short period increasing the cc debt seems reasonable.

best of luck with the job...but start planning to reduce those debts asap and dont go mad with the new salary.

have you already signed your contract for the new job?
some nice companies will give you a small advance for your first graduate job - i got £150 against my first wage packet from a county council to buy business clothing (which i got from charity shops for less than £15 and spent the rest on bills)

When I lent money, a signed contract with a start date would always result in loosening up the overdraft limit for a couple of months. The evidence of the contract made lending a lot easier.

B/F has just called and has apparently been offered a new job with a substantial pay increase. He's also getting a large payoff from his old company, so has basically ensured me I've nothing to worry about! Couldn't have come at a better time!!! The best thing is that it is at the same company as me so we can carshare! Have decided to get work clothes from ebay when I get first paycheck in (I have a few smart things collected from various friends, but eventually would like my own!). Also just got an email this sec - have sold a DVD boxset!

Have a plan of action for debt busting when I get salary, years of living on a student income have shown I can live on very little. Just need to keep myself organized!

    Thanks everyone!
