Income Tax rebate - "Fiscal drag?"

in Cutting tax
Every year (around about May) I check what I have paid in Tax (for the previous year) against my tax code for that year. Every year I'm in credit and I immediately bang off a letter to the taxman asking for a rebate. I can't complain as they are usually prompt in replying and settling up...
Until this year. I sent of my usual letter (in May), but have yet to hear a peep out of the tax office. OK, it isn't a fortune, but it is my money.
I was curious if anyone else has experienced anything similar as I'm wondering if, because of the economic crisis, the Government is hanging on more tightly to my money this year, (waiting for my chase up letter perhaps?).

HMRC went over to a new computer system in about May this year and this caused a big backlog. In most offices there was over 12 weeks post on hand. It's purely a matter of staff cuts to save money, not a question of hanging on to your money.
If you make sure your code is correct during the year as far as possible, then you wouldn't have to apply for a refund.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
