Banks!

After taking quite a bit of advice today from MSE and CCCS I have now realised that I have been majorly ripped off by my bank for years (22 to be exact). The lights have finally gone on to the fact that they have been controlling my income with their extortionate overdraft and current account fees and I felt that they would help me in setting up a plan to get me out of the vicious circle I have been in this overdraft! Why would they want to help me when they have made cast amounts of money out of me over the years. I have now set-up a basic account with an online bank, but still have an iffy week ahead of me as it was too late to get my pay transferred to another account and it is touch and go if they will even pay my direct debits (including my mortgage), as they will eat up my salary. Anyway, sorry for being so angry, but I feel I need to get this out of my system, as the bank were more than happy to keep me in my vicious circle of debt that they were making omoney from!! Thanks for listening!

Don't get angry Twinkle, get revenge.
Have you started reclaiming the bank and credit card charges yet?
There is a reclaiming board that should be able to give you lots of help and templates. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Thanks GeorgeUK - that's exactly what I'm going to do. No wonder I never seen the benefit of my salary - then when I suggested a way out they wouldn't accept it. As soon as I manage to get my salary and direct debits transferred to a new account I will start te reclaiming!!LBM - August 2009:eek: DMP started - Jan 2010:o

Oh Twinkle I so agree with you, my bank (Nat West) let me run up a massive o\d last time I was unemployed then of course as soon as I got a job they were only too happy to give me a loan to pay it all back. I guess they let me have the o\d as I had always had a good salary coming in. Now I'm unemployed again due to redundanacy and ill health and Nat West have been very unpleasant to me cos I'm not in a situation to get another well paid job (and there's a recession on which the banks have had some hand in creating). Oh well we learn the hard way. I have a new a\c with the Co-op and will be re-claiming my bank charges back from Nat West.0

The banks seem to have forgotten it was the taxpayer's money that has kept them afloat - it's a pity they won't return to the favour - revenge is the only way through reclaiming etc. Me too - will let you know how I get on!LBM - August 2009:eek: DMP started - Jan 2010:o

Don't forget that credit card charges aren't part of the bank charges case. You should be able to proceed with reclaiming these, even though they will argue that they are lawful. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Hi - just received a letter from my bank through the post wanting meand to detail my budget etc. I resent having to do this as I have already sorted a budget with CCCS have enough money to pay the debts off. A large part of my problem is the fact that my salary has been eaten up by my bank for years!! I am currently trying to get my wages out of this account and into another, but next week is going to be difficult as it is too lte to transfer my wages. I don't think I will return the budgetting for to my bank. I am not on trial, although sometimes it feels that way!LBM - August 2009:eek: DMP started - Jan 2010:o

Only a court can insist on seeing things like bank statements etc.
If they are wanting to see a breakdown of your figures, i would discuss this with CCCS and even then only send the SOA that has been agreed with CCCS. Also state that this is the document that CCCS drew up.
Don't feel pressured to supply the banks with anything. You have no legal obligation to do so.After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Thanks GeorgeUK I will contact CCCS now, as the bank's letter came across a little condescending I felt, they refer to MY problems as if they had no part in extortionate fees etc for the past 22 years. They even enclosed a booklet 'dealing with debt' and it's content contradicts what way the bank has dealt with all of this. Will let you know what CCCS say?LBM - August 2009:eek: DMP started - Jan 2010:o

Hello Twinkle,
I am sorry you are feeling angry.
How do you feel the split of responsibility is.
Is it 50% the banks fault and 50% yours. Or do you think the Bank is more at fault than you.
It would be interesting to here your estimate of the split of responsibility.
Good LuckThere will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
I tried my best under the circumstances I was in. It spiralled over the years as every time I got on top of things I was hit with charges on my account and knocked back again. I offered a couple of solutions to remedy this situation and they wouldn't budge! It's not who's fault it is I'm looking for, but a solution - my anger is at their lack of help in resolving this.LBM - August 2009:eek: DMP started - Jan 2010:o
