This season of mists and mellow fruitfulness welcomes a lush harvest of new cooking programmes from Good Food...
To celebrate this plentiful Autumn line-up, we're giving away £1,000 in Waitrose vouchers to one lucky winner. Just answer this easy question to be in with a chance of winning...

smilie_huhn1.gifRachel Allen: Home Cooking celebrates all that’s great about home-cooked food. In her recipe for roast chicken, what technique does Rachel use to test if the chicken is ready? Hint: Click here to find out (The answer is given approx. 4mins 15 secs into the video)

A) Tug on the leg to feel if it could come away from the rest of the chicken
B) Check if the juices run clear when the chicken is pierced in the thigh with a skewer
C) Cut into the chicken with poultry shears or sharp kitchen scissors to assess the colour

I have searched URL & Good Food. Apologies if I have missed anything.

[STRIKE]I'm not sure if your answer is correct

    4. To check whether the chicken is fully cooked, stick a skewer into the thigh with a spoon placed underneath to catch the juices; the juices should run clear. Also, the legs should feel quite loose on the bird. Transfer the chicken to a serving plate and leave to rest, covered with foil.

    I've gone for B[/STRIKE]

I will go and stand in the corner for not paying attention! Sorry

I thought the answer was the same as anniebannie according to the recipe, but if you watch the video it is as misslinda says.

Please do not apologise anniebanannie. You deserve thanks for questioning my answer as it has resulted in UKTV altering the text of the competition -

After reading your post last night I re-read the question and realised how ambiguous it was confused-smiley-009.gif. It does say 'in her recipe' and I discovered that if you scroll down the link/videoclip page the recipe is listed below speechless-smiley-020.gif! I was also concerned that UKTV had omitted 'Don't worry, you won't have to watch for long!' which they always include when using video links, making me wonder if they wanted the answer from the text and not the video!?
In a sheer panic speechless-smiley-023.gif, convinced that I had given everyone the wrong answer smilie_atritt.gifand would be banned from MSE forever sad-smiley-001.gif I emailed UKTV for clarification. I received the following reply this evening -

    Dear Linda,

    Thank you for your email.
Thank you very much for pointing this out.
We've reviewed the competition and agree that it is ambiguous - the intention was for people to answer the question as mentioned in the video but it's definitely not clear in the question that this is what we meant! To this end, we've rewritten the recipe to make it clearer. This means that anyone who answered A or B up to 12.30 today (when we changed the recipe) will have their entry included in the prize draw; but now that only one technique is referred to, hopefully it's clear that there's only one answer.
We wish you luck in the competition.

    Kind regards
    The UKTV Team

    So thank you anniebanannie. action-smiley-067.gif

p.s I will grow out of my obsession with smilies soon - I promise!
