  • Twinkle if you open a basic bank account with the SAME BANK then be careful as there are some rules that let banks take money from an account in credit to pay off an overdraft or debts to them. I would seriously look at getting a bank account away from the bank you currently bank with so the money can be used to pay essential bills.

Thanks for warning me dancingfairy - I have now opened a basic account with Co-op, although am a bit concerned, as I was too late for my salary to be aid in this month - have to stick with overdrawn account and am worried that they won't pay my mortgage and eat my salary up! I have written to them today though to request that they don't do this - we shall see! I've seen their true colours though and they're not pretty!

I empathise greatly. I am with Halifax and wil be closing my accounts as soon as I am df!. My oh died in the most dreadful of circumstances, I have a disability which effects my ability to walk from time to time. and when my oh died, our dd was just 8 months old. I am s/e, was dealing with the press and the police etc etc, bringing up dd with my disability on my own, trying not to fall over and when I called them to explain the circumstances they demonstrated a complete lack of anything. They did not budge through all that and they are currently dealing with a complaint from me in line with the Disability Discrimination Act and Human Rights Act where it says "reasonable adjustments" should be made. See how I get on there! They are taking it seriously, I get the impression they think a third party is acting on my behalf, but they are not!!.Good luck with your situation.

Thanks PAF I have been following your updates and am really encouraged. It helps to see that so many people are going through similar circumstances and that it is only natural to feel the way we do sometimes. We should be proud for not lying down under this, but fighting our way back out of it. Look forward to reading your updates!
