Wasnt sure where to put this so thought I would try this forum since I do want to be debt free so badly
I owe £305 from a nursing bursary which I was paid but as I left the course early I was required to pay back what I owed for the month I left. Which stupidly I did not do.
After repeated atttempts to get in touch with me and me STUPIDLY burying my head in the sand I have now been sent a Small Claims Summons.
I am so worried about it. The options for me included
- phoning the pursuers and arranging payment with them (which I am so scared to do because I don't even know what to say on the phone to them because I am so embarassed);
- admit liability and make a written application to pay in instalments or deferred lump sum (instalements would be better for me because I am back at university, but I am terrified that the court say "no")
- admit liability for the claim and attend court - please no
- dispute the claim - shouldnt even be an option for me!
Could someone please give me advice on what to do, I am turning into an emotional wreck and feel as if I am about to have a nervous breakdown. I want to just get it sorted quickly and simply which I assume will be easier said than done since I forgt about it for so long....
....oh how I have learned my lesson.
PLEASE HELP. I am feeling very scared!

Options 1 and 2 are the ones you need to look at.
You say 'i just want to sort it out quickly' so just pick up the phone and do it.
The longer you leave it the longer the time you are going to be an emiotional wreck. You are doing this to yourself. You have the power to stop this now. If you havent the werewithall to help yourself how can you expect help from other people. Just get on with it and it will stop. I promise.
there is no need to be embarrased over such a small debt.
Sorry to be so blunt but sometimes we just need a small kick in the b/side.
Go pick up the phone and just answer their questions.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Oh bless you for being understanding.
Give them a quick call but ask them to follow everything up in writing.
If you need to write to them always send it by recorded delivery.
They may allow you to do a payment thingy by direct debit or SO.
Hope fully to save you money, if the telephone number is an 0845 or 0870 number then have a look on SAYNOTO0870 and get a generic landline number.
good luck and let us know how you get on.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Good for you.
Try the pursuers solicitors (presumably that is where the letter has come from) they will be able to guide you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Thanks so much for your help, i know it is a small issue but it had got me worried. I phoned the solicitors office who have gave me a number to phone, i asked if it would be possible to set up a direct debit instead of a standing order and they said this would be fine and i could do it through the company.
Unfortunatly i have phoned twice with no answer, but I have a feeling the place where I am phoning have a bank holiday today...I shall however phone again a few times just to make sure and if I get no response I will phone them again in the morning....
....feeling so much better now!

Yep, public holiday for most of the east coast of Scotland today and some of the west have taken it up as well - so hang in there, and just go for it first thing tomorrow so you can enjoy the rest of your day
