A&L Switch DD's

Hi,

I am switiching my Direct Debits from Halifax to A&L. I rang A&L today to see the progress, They have received my DD/SO list from Halifax and they will be contacting the company switch banks in a day or 2.

Now I have a Direct Debit to Blackhorse which is to be taken out around the 27/09. A&L told me that poss this months payment wll still go through Halifax - Is that true?

I dont want payment to be late because the DD was cancelled from Halifax and then delayed in setting it up with A&L.

Thanks
MS

When I switched to A&L I had read a lot of anecdotes of it all going horribly wrong. That said I called up all my utility's and provided them with new details for the DD.
My suggestion is to call the important ones and ask them to check on their end as well/arrange it through them.

Careful with that because arranging the switch yourself will likely invalidate your entitlement to the £100 switching incentive.

The 27th is only 6 days away so I would say it's very likely that the payment will go via the existing account with the Halifax.
The best thing to do is monitor both accounts online and make sure there is enough available balance in both accounts to cover the DDs.
A+L may have given you a free overdraft that can be used for this purpose.
  • Usually it takes 10 days to start or stop a DD I think.

And when I got the account, I remember them saying that they would not charge anything for returned items or going overdrawn. Not sure if this extends to Halifax charges though....you will have to check it out. Either way, you should try and leave money in both accounts to cover the DD's for at least a month, thats if its possible of course.

They will send you a list of DDs/SOs - if you don't want to change anything on the list, you don't need to do anything, otherwise you have to amend & return the list. From memory, it took around two to three months to switch in my case.
