being a hair model

seen an ad in the window of a local salon saying 'models wanted', and am wondering whether to ring them, as i can't really afford a haircut...has anyone else been a hair model?

  • No but I have been a haurdresser lol models are needed for trainees to practise on. They will be supervised by a qualified hairdresser and will need to explain what they are doing to the qualified person before they make any cuts. You won't be the first person whose hair they have cuyt - they start on a doll, then family and friends before moving onto strangers x

Yes a few times. I must say ive had some pretty good cuts by trainees - most better than the cheaper qualified hairdressers because theyre trying to impress and do it well! Be prepared to be there for longer than the norm though.

Best one was a free cut in toni and guy, they just approached me in the street which was good.
  • Used to be a hair model all the time whilst I was at uni and now I get my hair cut at the local college, costs about £4 I think and I always get a good cut...takes a few hours though sometimes if they are particularly new!
Really should be doing some work...
  • I have been a model quite a few times and had better success than with the first visit to a new hairdresser. If they are being assessed they will be ultra careful.

I was a hairdressers model through my teenage years, I loved having funky hair cuts, didn't mind that it took quite a while to cut and was happy to have something a little different at a price I could afford.

There were several really good hairdressing salons that only charged a few pounds at that time.

Im another pro apprentice girl - I had T highlights done by our girl, and them and a cut cost me £15 - it took 3 hours (which was a bit of a suprise - but thats my fault for not checking!!) and I was really pleased with the result. Now I know about leaving a big block of time, I wont hesitate to have her again - she was very good

I used to get my cut and colour done at the Vidal Sassoon School in London, by far the best results I have ever had!
    Gone ... or have I?
  • years ago I did it for vidal sassoon. Fab hair cuts and colours but I couldn't choose a style as it depended what they were promoting that season.

    Go for it!

I did this as a teenager and they did an amazing job cut and perm. The only problem was that i wasnt shown how to keep the hairstyle good so it didnt look nearly as good at home. id recommend that you ask for tips on styling when you are there.
