You can clean gold jewellery in a bowl of soapy water. Use a soft toothbrush to get inside the links and then drip dry on a towel, and buff with a chamois leather!

If it isn't tarnished try soaking it in warm water and with washing up liquid and then giving it a gentle brush with an old toothbrush ..... If you do this once a week it seems to act as a preventitive measure and stops jewellery getting really dirty or tarnished.

If it is tarnished, soda crystals can remove tarnish from metals. Put some tin foil in a dish, add soda crystals and pour on boiling water. Immerse the necklace and leave it for a few minutes, rinse, dry and polish.

If it is tarnished it is not gold.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Goddards do a Gold and Platinum Jewelry Cleaner, with a lid that acts as the bowl and a little brush for £2.84. I bought my pot in Tesco (in the household cleaning section) Just cleaned up a gold bracelet that was really dirty and it's absolutely gleaming. Works wonderfully on rings (my cousin swears by gin, but I'd rather drink it than clean with it!)

Well I hate to say stardrops! but I just cleaned up a gold ring with it wonderfully, put it on more or less neat and then washed it off, moving the ring about a bit and a cotton bud for fiddly bits. HTH.

If my rings need a bit of a spruce-up, I use toothpaste and an old toothbrush. Just scrub it around a bit and rinse it all off with warm water then polish with a soft piece of cloth (or your towelling dressing gown, if you're me). Cheap, quick to do and effective.

I clean all mine by putting a folded up piece of tin foil in the bottom of a bowl. Put about a large tspn of Bi-carb on the top. Put the necklace on it and then pour some boiling water over the lot, enough to cover item. It fizz's up then leave for a while, take out and wash in warm water. Everything comes up lovely, especially silver items.
Am told the bicarb reacts with the tin foil.

    Hi,
sorry if posted in wrong place please move if need be.
What it is, My daughter has a 9ct gold necklace and whenever she wears it, it leaves a green, black mark round her neck and on her clothes. I have took it to jewllers shop to be cleaned but are still having the same problem. She has to clean it with a soft cloth before she wears it, and there is still lots green, black colour coming off it. Is there anything to prevent this hapening. I forgot to say that we have used the home jewellry cleaner, and soaking it in washing up liquid in a cup
