Search on my credit report, not mine!

Hope someone might be able to tell me what to do. I have noticed a new search on my credit report from a company called Shop Direct Finance Company Limited but I have not applied for any credit! Yesterday I received a letter from this company addressed to Mr M Tinkles (I am Mrs M Tinkles) stating that they had considered my application and have rejected it. I tried to ring them but was told that the department I need to speak to aren't there at weekends.
Does anyone have any ideas about what I can do from here, I obviously want to get to the bottom of where this application came from but also want the search removed from my file.

Shop Direct are catalogues such as littlewoods and kays. I assume this doesn't ring any bells? You haven;t ordered anything from a catalogue (even if you paid outright for it?) Could anyone else in your household have used a catalogue? teenage kids or your partner?
Otherwise I think the best bet would be to call them again tomorrow and ask them for more info.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

Sometimes you get a credit search put on your file just by ordering the catalogue - without buying anything from it. Buying a mobile phone, you also get a credit check.
I would still phone the company to see what the letter you received is all about. If it states that credit has been applied for then this may be something more serious. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Hi,
Thanks for all your replies.
I managed to speak to someone at Shop Direct finance today and it definitely wasn't me! The DOB and contact details were wrong. They confirmed that the application was made over the internet and the person concerned could have obtained my information from the electoral role.
They have registered this with CIFAS so fingers crossed I don't have any more issues! Just as well my credit record isn't perfect or they may not have been turned down!!0 -
They would still have had to send any card or acknowledgement letter to your address though wouldn't they?
At least i hope they would.
Might be worth having a look at your credit report in another few months - just to make sure this is off and nothing else has come up.After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
