  • hmm.. if it tasted normal to you i'd just wait a couple of weeks and serve it again, but either bung a load of parmesan on the top, or make it into a pasta bake and put cheese on top..disguises a multitude of sins! maybe add a few more herbs or a bit more garlic and see if he notices. it may have just been a bug turning his stomach.. if he hates it again you will know there is something up with your cooking!! lol...
  • actually i did hear that news the other day that serving garlic bread with a meal reduces spousal complaints by 20% or something, so this could be your answer??!! although i may have dreamt this as i cant find anything about it now!! lol

hmmm nothing in there to cause tummy upset i would say. but why put oats in? i would freeze it in small portions and add it to next batch. if no probs keep adding a little to batches!

Oats, like lentils, can help eek food out , or stretch it further. I have only used lentils myself, as I Imagine oats to be a little too thick. Did you over oat it possibly? Oats have a milky kind of texture so too many could largely change the taste

  • If you didn't notice any difference, and you oh did and was then ill I'd guess that something was up with him rather than your food!

My advice would be to use the frozen portions in chilli, lasagne and pasta bake - for chilli just add kidney beans, peppers and more onions plus some chilli and cumin and a spoonful of cocoa powder, dish up with rice, grated cheese and a blob of sour cream, and I bet he won't say anything about the previous batch of bolognese - most men or non-cooks seem not to realise that one meal can be transformed into another! Lasagne is simple too, just add another can of toms, some peppers and mushrooms and layer with the lasagne sheets and top with cheese sauce, or creme fraiche and parmesan. Pasta bake just needs you to add whatever veg you fancy to the sauce, cook through and stir it into some cooked and drained pasta, top with breadcrumbs and grated cheese and flash under the grill till golden brown.

BTW I always chuck a handful of oats into my mince dishes, they absorb any fat nicely and just take on the taste of the meat, and I add lentils too, extra protein and help make it go a bit further.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

  • I'd add a vote for making it into lasagne as well. All that white/cheese sauce and cheese on top disguise most of the taste of the mince anyway. :-)
