Hi - think there is a thread dedicated to bank charges........
I have written my letters to Abbey and am going to post tomorrow......
When i asked for previous statements they sent me every single one in a separate envelope!!!!!
Such a waste of paper - got over 50 of the things, but doesn't surprise me with them.
    What's he building in there???
Debt at highest £30,450 (Dec 05)
    Debt at lowest £9, 113 (Jul 07)
How much did we over spend whilst on maternity leave

I had my letter from them this morning, confirming that they do not believe that their charges are unfair and that I agreed to the terms and conditions when I opened the account. I was only claiming for £60. There even seemed a slight threat in the letter that it may lead to the closure of my current account. Not that I am worried, but I am going to court now just out of principle.

It won't get to court, I am 99.99% certain of that... not for £60 anyhow. But good luck regardless.

I filed my claim last night against Barclays for £615 plus interest and charges and have had £180 back from Capital One to date... it's all good

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

Yes, got 4k even though their standard letter was saying that their charges were not unfair blah blah. They then offered 2k then 2,500k then 3k then hey presto 4k. The negotiating over the money was all done by email in one day as they left it so late it took. Tomlin order drawn and no confidentiality clause.

    Thank you everyone.

My statements have just started arriving thick & fast from them. I have read about plenty of success with other banks but you are the first Abbey success story i have come across Pere Ubu. I dont particularly want to go to court but i guess its worth persuing if there are any payments being made at all.

We aren't particularly badly off right now but incurred a lot of charges when my husband was ill for a few years & I do think that they could have been a bit more understanding at the time, so i think its reasonable to continue.

Thanks a lot for the advice

Good luck. Just stick to your claim. It is your money so don't give in if they send their threatening letters. I never replied to any of their letters that said they were fair charges etc. Simply didn't enter into any dialogue. I had my claim in court it was clear what I wanted so didn't want to waste my time answering their blah blah letters. Then because they had left it so late I was in a very strong postion.
My advice would be to ignore blah blah letters and sit and wait. It can be scary. I did write and tell them very early on that all correspondence should be in writing only. Then they wrote a very nice letter providing me with an email address. When/if you do correspond by email and time is of the essence dictate to them. Tell them you will be off line for a while but will check your email again and give them a time when you will be checking it. That way you avoid sitting at the computer and lets them know that you are in control. Each time I sent an email I gave them a time when I would next be o line. My correspondence all happened in a day it went from 0k to 4k in a matter of hours. My husband wanted to accept 2k but why should I it was my money.
    Good luck.

How long did it take Abbey to get the statements to you when you requested it? It is about the 40 day limit now and we haven't heard anything.

I'm inspired. i will continue ! It would be thousands in our case i am sure but have only received about 1 years statements so far.

I am not 100% certain but i think they may have just got them in within the the 40 days (the few i have s far received anyway).

    Thanks everyone

Abbey never sent statemets so I had to estimate. Reported them to the Info Comm.
