Having a rough day - debt just rocketed!

Hi all,
Having a frustrating day, and wanted to rant to you lovely people.
I'm in the middle of divorcing my husband after he left me and year old daughter to 'get his head straight' - a process which seems to require moving in with an ex-prostitute and her 4 kids - and as I'm naming her in the divorce the court has been trying to serve the papers on her. She's given them a false name and so now they have to go and check and get the proof that she is the right person. Husband's papers have been signed, sealed and with the court for nearlt a month now, the daft cow seems to think she is going to have to pay a fine - first time I've heard of someone in her profession giving a rebate! (ooh, !!!!!y!)
So basically 2-3 months after starting divorce I'm still waiting for the initial papers to go before the judge. As I've been saddled with all the joint debts and haven't asked a penny off him (as I'm unlikely to get any, the lazy sod hasn't got a job) the least he could do would be to make sure his girlfriend signed the papers!
Then I get home to find that Rossendales have replied to my offer of payment - all is dandy apart from sending them all the usual budget gubbins - but a debt I thought was £300 is actually.............. £1,296.95!!!!!
It turns out that a payment of nearly £3k I made to them was put towards business rate arrears, not the council tax arrears for the last house.
North Lincolnshire seems very expensive to live in, as I must have paid around £6k in council tax for home and business over the last 3 years. It seems like it!
Okay, you can come out now, rant's over. DFD has been pushed back, and looks like it will again cos the Snowball Calc is on the blink and has me putting nearly double my debt budget on debts for a few months.

This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Feel free to rant away. I think you deserve to have a good rant that's for sure. I'm not very good with the practical advice (if I was I wouldn't be in the situation I am in now) but hang in there. Divorce is a horrible time but to be saddled with financial difficulty as well as a result is awful.
Just wanted to show my support. Keep hanging in there.Debt Free Nerd No. 89, LBM: April 2006, Debt at highest (Sept 05): £40,939.96
NOW TOTALLY DEBT FREE!!!!!!!! Woooo hooooooo!!! DEBT FREE DATE: 23 December 20090 -
Divorce is not the greatest help in paying debts. I'm stuck between working overtime to pay off large debts left over from the marriage & then getting a higher assessment off the Child Support Agency because I've worked extra hours. So then I have to work more to cover the debts & then get an even higher assessment etc. There appears no way out of this.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)

Rossendales have been known to charge for things they aren't alowed to, e.g. charging for a van before they have levied against goods. The scale of charges is at the end of this factsheet.
I think you should investigate how that £300 debt became £1300. Some CABs have people who can help.
Best of luck.0 -

Are you going for divorce on the grounds of adultery? Isn't that the tricky to prove option unless someone is willing to admit it? I thought nearly everyone went for the unreasonable behaviour option?A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
It's a recession when your neighbour loses his job; it's a depression when you lose yours.0
