MSE baby on the way - frozen meals and OS baby tips please!

lansinoh is a purified lanolin that supports moist healing, if you're planning to breast feed then you will probably want some - it is available on prescription but ask the midwives for some sample sachets so that you have some in hand. I know it sounds all doom and gloom expecting to suffer discomfort but you and the baby have to learn how to feed and there is room for mistakes and it is better to be prepared than to suffer when you're already tired. NCT and La Leche are both wonderful resources for getting it right.
I doubt there's any real value, either moral or financial in hemming your own muslins - the only advantage I can see to this is that you could make a couple of 3' square ones which are great for swaddling without causing overheating.
Growbags - can be used from birth. Just make sure they are the right size and tog. If in doubt err on the lower tog and add more clothes to the baby. If you have an especially good climber they provide added value as they can delay the need to move from a cot to a bed.
Newborn nappies - at the risk of having my head bitten off - start with disposables. You'll have so many other things to get used to that a week or so of not having to wash a dozen or so nappies every day will take a lot of pressure off.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I just used Chamomile & Honey teabags (went for organic myself, but that's really just a preference) - a nice strong brew so the flannels have a colour to them when soaked - both are both soothing, and honey has a natural antiseptic property. They smell lovely and a batch will survive for a day or so if kept in a sealed tub - just chuck the used ones in the nappy bucket along with everything else.
I know a lot of the washable nappy brands do their own 'wipes' but they're mostly fleece and I just didn't get on with them - 'value' flannels do the job just as well if not better, and for a fraction of the price (in fact, I asked for spare flannels, old terries and thin towels on freecycle and got loads of offers - most of the towels and terries were cut down and hemmed - some were too good for that though and so went into use as mops, burping cloths etc, there are even a couple still doing their 'proper' jobs now).
Edit - was trying to recall where I first learnt about the tea, then I remembered - there are some alternitve solution recipes here - http://www.thenappylady.co.uk/public/productdetails.aspx?id=8&cat=5DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
Right, I've decided to make one thing a day for the freezer. Yesterday was a loaf of bread, today single portions of bacon and leek pie, which we're also having for tea this evening.
I am also trying to motivate myself to clear out the room which will be the baby's room - I think I'll do half an hour of clearing and half an hour of knitting.Debt at LBM (20th March 2008) £13,607

Does anyone make and freeze their own pizzas? If so, do you just freeze the base, or the base and tomato, or the whole pizza? And do you cook it first? I would like to make some tomorrow.Debt at LBM (20th March 2008) £13,607
