bought Chicago Town Pizza ... very BAD taste and Smell

I bought Chicago Town pizza just few hours ago (the cheesy type) from Morrison's and unfortunately, the pizza itself inside the package was in a very bad condition (crusted/melted as if it lacked being in a cold condition for an extended period of time).

I have taken several pictures of the pizza in the condition it was after opening the box. After going to their website, I noticed that I was required to print out a form, and send it by post along with the receipt. Why do I have to incur the postage charges and pay for the envelope ? It doesn't seem to be fair to me !!

The taste of the pizza by the way was horrible and it smelled bad, too. I will never buy Chicago Town Pizzas again.

  • I may be wrong, but I think your 'contract' is with the supermarket - just take it back?

    But I may be wrong...
  • By the looks of the pics I'd say it's the fault of Morrisons. It looks like it has defrosted and refrozen in that shape due to the way it was stored. I'm sure morrisons will replace it or refund you.
    Looking forward to the future.

Or maybe one of Chicago Town's delivery trucks ? Morrison's is at least 5 miles away from my place.
  • I am sure if u takeit back to Morrisons they will replace and refund u. I just wanted to say its never a good idea to taste anything that smells bad as even a small amount can
lead to food posioning. Hope Morrisons sort it for u

  • Your other option is to take it to your local Environmental Health Department, who will get in touch with the supermarket and the manufacturer of Chicago Town. If it smells "off", then ask EH if it can be analysed by their Public Analyst to check if the product is safe

Think the OP ate the pizza though? I wouldn't of it smelt terrible.

AFAIK, chicago town only produce frozen pizzas for all the major supermarkets/iceland etc.

There are problems as to who is at fault. Chicago town may have had a poor service, Morrissons may have not stored the food correctly. Your first port of call is the supermarket (if they are not at fault, rest assured they would be reclaiming from the supplier). Morrisons like any of the major retailers would re-imburse you immediately, but you had to take it back rather than risk eating it (the more fuss you make, the more you will actually get in vouchers - none of the major retaillers like other peotential customers hearing complaints, having said that Tesco were very good at giving me £1 for one of the Daily Mail vouchers without a hint of a fuss from me).

When food is supposed to be fresh ( not forzen) and directly from the supermarket (or any other retailer) in question, Environmental Health are good at following up compliants. I have used this before and although the food has been deemed fit for human consumption, the retailers have quickly forwarded money off coupons as compensation (in the case of one fast food chain, even that was not enough to tempt me to spend the voucher or buy from them again).
  • ChicagoTown has responded to my complaint today asking for more details/pictures. I just replied to them with the info they asked for.

I would have gone to Morrison's if I had the time. And yes, I ate a small part of the pizza. I was very hungry and it didn't smell bad before putting it in the oven as it was frozen at the time of purchase.
