Being new to the Food Shopping Lark.
I was wondering wheres the cheapest place to buy -
either Chicken Portions/Pieces - for currys.
And also Vegetables & Fruit. Are they cheap or any good from Lidl/Aldi?
I have access to Tesco/Asda & Sainsburys too.
Any tips like which Shops reduce their Meats and at what Time approx.
I read a post about this the other day but cant track it down now

I budgetted £100 a Month, so will see.0 -
for chicken pieces for curries etc, i usually keep ann eye out and one of the stores has them on offer, then bulk buy and freeze, not sure if there are any on offer at present. i find my local greengrocer cheaper for fruit and veggies, esp sat tea time as they are shut sundays, so they want to get rid of stock and usually mark it down about half an hour before closing. as for milk, we use long life value range milk (skimmed) works out much cheaper a pint, plus you don't have to keep going out to get fresh as you can stockpile it in a cupboard, only needs refrigerating when its open.
my local sainsburys reduce at about 8pm, they shut most days at 10pm, and sundays they reduce at about 3, shutting at four. local co-op reduces stuff about 7pm, they shut at 10pm, often some real bargains in there.
back to the chicken portions, i have some in the freezer i bought frozen from iceland which were quite cheap, i've defrosted them to use for stews etc, and then frozen the stews, so this may be a cheaper way to go if your happy with frozen ones.
another tip, always look on the dented tins shelf, its amazing what you can find on there reduced for a bit of vanity, and when your eating it your first thought isn't what a nice perfectly shaped can it came out of is it????
hope some of that helps, i'll come back if i think of some more.£2 saver club 30th sept 198 £2 coins = £396(£350 banked)0 -
At the moment tesco has chicken breast fillets on sale in the frozen section, BOGOF £3.99, I couldn't tell you how many were in each bag though.0

It all depends what you want - you can buy cheap stuff at Iceland - I do one Iceland shop every couple or months or so to stock up the freezer. You could buy a lot of frozen veg here as well ,which is supposedly as good for you as the fresh stuff (or very nearly.)
If you aren't too worried about organic, free range etc I would recommend Iceland once a month for all your frozen stuff- including chicken fillets etc, and then maybe Netto or Lidl for Washing Powder, tins etc and then top up at Asda. If you haven't got an Asda by you, you could use Tesco, but be sure to stick to the value lines if on a budget.
