buying property abroad

Recently took out a mortgage for a property in Turkey. Everything o.k except for actually paying the mortage. It's costing nearly £40 to send the money! I have tried two different banks here but both seem to charge the same. Has anyone got any ideas of a cheaper way to send money to the bank in Turkey?:o

Have you tried somewhere like Moneycorp or HIFX? They usually have better exchange rates than banks and are cheaper to transfer funds.

another way could be to send 3 months mortgage /bill payments at a time, so you are only transfering 4 times per year instead of 12

We recently transfered money from first direct in uk to Hsbc in turkey for only £10. Transaction took 3 working days.

Just a brief warning to people so they don't fall into the same trap as myself. I send a lot of money abroad for business and used HiFX for about a year. However, their customer services leaves so much to be desired...

If you're ok with 40minute phone queues for basic queries and rude managers then go for it!

Amazing, there aren't a lot of companies offering a similar service and they dominate the market. After lots of searching, I found Caxton FX (http://www.caxtonfx.com) who offer a similar service and the rates were generally about 2% better too! Not to mention polite staff who answer the phone line in seconds...
