How to seek a mortgage payment holiday?

Hi, I've been reading on here about these and wondered how to go about it? Do I just write to our lender requesting it? Is it something that they usually allow or is it based on other things?
My oh has been on short time for a while, and we have coped (just) but are playing catch up all month usually, and could do with a break for, say, 6 months until he is back full time and things improve.
I know that the payments will probably increase afterwards, but It's a risk we are looking at.
Any help/advice greatly appreciated!

You need to give your mortgage provider a ring.
I rang my mortgage provider when I was made redundant this year, for a payment holiday until my payment protection kicked in - they wouldnt consider it as I had put a claim in for JSA.
Some providers are better than others for payment breaks, and really depends on the terms and conditions of your original mortgage offer.
They will no doubt be of assistance to you when you give them a call.
good luck;)0
