Looking for a free or very cheap videographer

Hi All
H2B's grandad is quite elderly now and as he lives on the IOW along with H2B's grandma they won't be able to come to the wedding as its just too far and he's quite frail. My Great Aunt (more of a Grandma to me) can't come either as she's very old and frail
We'd like to have the wedding video'd but can't afford a professional. We could get a guest to do it but we both really hate being filmed and am worried it'll come out very badly. We're therefore looking for someone to do it for free or as cheaply as possible, someone without much experience would be fine if they are looking to build a portfolio etc
Could anyone suggest how you go about looking for someone?
We're in the bit where Essex, Herts and Cambs collide!
Many thanks

If you both hate being filmed I would suggest you really think about having one of your guests do it. My H2B hates being photographed so we're having one of our guests, a good friend, be our photographer simply because it was the only way he would have felt comfortable on the day, I don't think he could have relaxed at all if there was a stranger taking photos, no matter how professional that stranger was.0

See now I kinda see it the opposite way to you - we don't like being filmed and don't like they way we look when filmed. Therefore to me you'd be more likely to look better and have the icky bits edited out if it was done professionally. Sorry I know that sounds very vain :cool:0 -
How about contacting a local school/college/uni to see if they had a video club or section whose members would like the chance to do this.
Of course if you don't pay you may end with something unusable.
In truth a professional will make it look (and equally importantly sound) good, but if you are on a no budget limit then try the above.0 -
SCRUFF - I see where you're coming from, different things work for different people, and the way I see it your wedding day is the one day of your life where vanity is quite acceptable and not to be ashamed of!0

HI there, I really would get a guest to do it. That s what we are doing. We just want it done as a reminder of the day so we don't forget anything! If it is primarily for your relatives then I'm sure it will be fine. Alternatively contact colleges near you, particularly an art college if there is one and see if there would be a student willing it film it for you, maybe in return for letting them use it as part of their coursework? Worth a try!

One of our friends was a guest at a wedding at which he had been asked to video.
The groom to be gave him a camcorder a couple of weeks before so he could practice, which was a good idea.
Lovely pictures but horrific sound as all he had was the mic on the camera and although you can zoom in the video the mic stays where it is.
They ended up just putting music over the whole lot so no actuality was used.0 -
Thanks all ladies
Am going to try Gumtree and look into colleges0
