Lowell letter out of the blue!

I hope somone can help me.

I have recently received a couple of letters from Lowell requesting payment from a Barclaycard balance of over £800. This is kind of out of the blue and a little complicated.

The debt was run up from 2000-2004. There were some other debts as well and as a result of being unable to make payments, Gregory Pennington took over and I was paying £400 a month to clear them. This was between 2005 and early 2007. During this time I wasn't even living in England. On my return to the UK, I stopped payments as I had no job and no way of paying. I haven't heard anything since and have just kind of buried my head in the sand, not sensible, I know.

So, now, I don't live at the address they send mail to (it's my mother's address as I often move around the country because of work). I obviously want to be free from debt as this causes many a sleepless night and stress. To be honest, I'm not sure exactly how much I owe and who owns the debt these days as I haven't heard anything. Until, this letter from Lowell arrived.

It having been a couple of years since any of the debt was paid, I don't want to open a whole can of worms with preferrential payments etc. So, what do I do now? I've read some stuff on here about requesting credit agreements and so on but I'm not sure of the procedures and reasons behind all this so would really appreciate the help.

In terms of the other debt, what will have happened to it? Any ideas and any suggestions about what I should do?
Thanks in anticipation.

This thread also has the details of what letters to send if they ignore you. Looking at the time period, I doubt they'll have your CCA. It looks like they bought the debt just before it's due to become statute bound, probably for pennies, in the hope of getting you to pay up. Remember, DO NOT sign the letter, just print your name on it. And don't use a cheque, use a postal order. If they get your signature, they can forge it onto your CCA.

    Good luck.
