Subsidised food is not that uncommon.

How many factories still have canteens.
  • i only got free lunch when i worked in catering and it was limited to certain foods. my department was contracted to work in a big accountacy firm in london and they wouldnt even subsidise the food for their employers.

the only time they got free lunch was if they had to have meetings

so to get it subsidised your very lucky and would bother complaining

oh.. so you wouldn't complain then if part of your salary was taken away then. As effective that's whats happening?!
  • I've never had free lunch at work...and I've never heard of anyone outside catering who does. You were very lucky to have this in the first place IMO.
  • I got free lunches when I worked in a library until this summer!

I can understand why you're annoyed, but I think it's probably a symptom of the current climate.

I get a full roast at work for £3.50 :D

Daily, there is a choice of about 3 hot meals, omelettes made to order, fish, jacket potatoes or hot, freshly cooked baguettes. Mmmm.

Isn't free food a real benefit in kind and as such taxable ?
