Starting a shop

I'd like to open a card/gift shop somewhere in Essex. The trouble is, other than studying Business Studies a few years ago, I have no real experience.
I don't know how to employ staff or the rules, regulations and insurance required in a small business.
Also, I don't know if starting from scratch - leasing out premises etc - is the best way to go or if buying an existing one is a better starting place. The ones I've been looking at are in the region of £30,000...
Anyone know of any resources that are useful for amateurs like me? I've been searching online but there are just so many

Do a business plan. See if you can make money, there seems to be a lot of competition in that market with shops closing down regularlyIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Why not go for a business with no overheads, staff, stock, customers or long working hours? Buying & selling shares is the best business to be in for these reasons & if you fail then all you have lost is your initial investment. The Stock Market is open from 8:00 to 16:30 but you can do extra research outwith these hours.
Do not use a Stockbroker but an online Share Dealing firm, many on the web, prices ranging from £5 per deal upwards.
Low overheads, low costs, apart from the capital needed, can be done from anywhere that you have computer link, good returns & hours to suit.

N.Never be afraid to take a profit.
Keep breathing.
Just because I am surrounded by FOOLS does not make me wise. :j0
