Is it just me thinking this about wedding dresses?

If you look at this link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Copy-of-FERIDA-La-Sposa-Wedding-dress-Size-8-10_W0QQitemZ300347442162QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Wedding_Clothing?hash=item45ee1a43f2&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_582wt_1165

The wedding dress looks amazing in the model picture. I'm guessing the person had the dress made with Landy or milly or someone, but the dress just doesn't match up to the one in the picture, which yes I know it won't, but it just looks really shoddy. Is it just the effect of a personal camera vs a pro photographer?

here are some other examples:

Photo0067.jpg This is a dress from a proper wedding shop and again it just doesn't look nice. Maybe it's me being picky and having not been to a bridal shop. But is it just me?

Sorry if this makes no sense!:rotfl:

  • I think you'll find it's all to do with the photo.
When you see these lovely dresses in mags, they do all sorts to the dress to get the perfect picture, even to the extent of shoving board down the front of a dress to make the bodice look perfect.
You'll probably find the dress in the photo hasn't been pressed or "set" in anyway shape or form. This will not however, determine the overall effect of a bride in her dress on her wedding day.:D
  • The ebay photo has professional lighting, is taken by a professional photographer who probably took 50 shots and used the best one.

The other picture is just one picture with just the shop lighting, so yes I do think it is just the pic!

When I tried on dresses none of them fitted so I was either pinned within an inch of my life or had a gaping bit at the back where it wouldn't fasten!

I will say though that the lady in the shop swooshed the train to make it fall right though and it does look a bit scrunched in the picture which probably won't help.

I am surprised they let you take a photo though - most shops don't so you can't get landy to copy them!

That's not my picture. I'm just using it as an example. :) hope the lady doesn't mind.

I guess you're both right. So the landy dresses, when they arrive, will the look pretty much like the dresses that you see in shops?

  • There is a thread on another forum where girls post pics of models in their dresses then pics of themselves in the dresses, it's very interesting! Sometimes it looks like a completely different dress, the same occurs on the Maggie Sotterro site when there are links to 'real' bride testimonials, I've flicked back to the 'catalogue' pic to make sure I haven't skipped a page or something.
It's all to do with the staging of proffessional pics whereas we don't have that luxury.
Brides look gorgeous in their dresses and often a whole lot better than the models!

  • It's on the YAYW forum, but they have removed many of the threads to do with copies because of, well, copyright and that fact they don't wish to endorse it.
