That loaf looks seriously evil to me!

I agree about the insufficient mixing...are you sure the paddle-thingy was properly in place?

Well, despite a little voice behind me claiming that my loaf is "a shoggoth loaf", I'm going to assume that it was a mixing problem (and will cut back to the lower-salt usage too). I think, with hindsight, that 1.5tsp salt and 1/4 tsp of evil may be too much.

Thanks so much for all your replies :) I left a lump out for the birds, but they've shunned it in favour of pecking at the gravel instead. Don't blame 'em.

What does the VitC do, btw? I hear people talking about it on here, but have no idea what it does to bread.

lol - oh just popped in and wants to know if you used cauliflour as an ingredient?
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice
  • Its a masterpiece-when mine go wrong they go inwards! How the hell did you keep the lid on the breadmaker? The mind boggles. Good for feeding the 5000 though and definitely deserves the turner prize! Good luck-its great we all see the funny side of these disasters.

Have you checked on the net to see if there are any recipes or manuals there specific to your breadmaker? I've got a Morphy Richards, & I follow the recipes in the manual religiously except for varying the flavourings I use. I've used mine at least 3 times a week for nearly 2 years, & I've never had a creation like yours. That thing could teach a few kids a lesson at Halloween! :D

I think the recipes do vary slightly from breadmaker to breadmaker - my recipes came out too wet in one friend's Sharp, & too dry in another friend's Panasonic. I think your best bet is to find a manual/recipe book online specific to your model, make sure the mixing spindle is firmly in place & put the ingredients into the mixer in the order given in the recipe. Good luck. :)

I have the recipe book/manual that came with it and follow the recipe exactly :S That's why I've been so confused! I've done everything as it should. I'm going to try another loaf tomorrow and see how that goes.

(Also, your icon is freaking me out! My bread is far less scary ;))

I know, it's a horror isn't it? In my young days, I knew men who danced like that! :D

As for the baking, maybe there's a problem then with the mixing as others have suggested.
