claiming mileage for 2 different jobs

My employer for my PAYE job allows me to claim 46p per mile for the mileage i do in my car for work.

In my self-employed job do i have to claim per mileage for that as well or can i claim for a % of my running costs?

I guess it would be less complicated to stick to claiming mileage for both, but im prepared to do the calcs if it works out better claiming running costs.

As a self employed person, you can opt for either method of recording travel costs - but dont forget that you are not claiming anything, just reducing your profit.

  • Also you are being paid too much per mile in your PAYE job. 6p per mile will be taxable for the first 10,000 miles and then 21p/mile for anything over 10,000 miles..
