Is the 5 euro comp a scam?

I got a WEM on Monday from My Tavel Cash telling me I had won so I applied for the card.

Earlier I got this email from My Travel Cash

"Dear XXXXX
Thank you for applying to redeem your My Travel Cash Prepaid MaterCard® with €5 loaded. We have your card ready to send but unfortunately at the moment you are not passing our automated identity checks. We are required to complete these by law and you are very close to passing. All we need from you is: A Proof of Address –Bank / Credit Card / Utility / Mortgage Statement (Current – Within the last 3 months) OR –UK Photo Card driving license And A Proof of Identity –Scanned copy of valid passport – Photo Page OR –UK Photo Card driving license – (If not used as proof of address) To make it as easy as possible for you to claim your card we accept proofs by: –FAX – Please send to +44(0) 845 280 1694 –EMAIL – Please send to [EMAIL="responses@corporatepay.co.uk"]responses@corporatepay.co.uk[/EMAIL] –POST – Please send copies to: CorporatePay PO Box 60826 London W6 6GB United Kingdom As long as you can provide us with this information we are confident the you will pass the identity check and we should be able to send you your card as soon as possible. 10 minutes later I get another email from My Travel Cash titled "ignore previous email" but the body of the email seems to be identical to the first one.

I'm a bit confused and worried.

I just deleted my email from them as 5 euros is less that £5 and it just didn't seem to be worth the effort to get it.

I've googled "My Travel Cash" and "My Travel Cash prepaid" but all it comes up with is a link to the Daily Mail comp.

In both emails they miss out the s in Mastercard :rolleyes:

No, we've been here for over 3 years and are bogged down with the usual trappings of adulthood (mortgage, council tax, banks,etc) so I dunno why they can't find me

This is a post to answer some queries that people have about the prize.

Identity checks. Since the card is reloadable we are required by our regulators to carry out identity checks before we issue the prize.

We use an automated service that looks up details against a number of national databases. We only look up name and address details. It is not a credit check.

We can match the majority of applicants in this way - and we issue the card. There is a small minority for whom this doesn't work. For these people we have sent an email requesting more information (which can be returned by fax, email or post).

If we have asked you for further proof of ID, we apologise for the inconvenience, but there is no way around this for us.

Second Email (re: ID check). There was a formatting error in the HTML in the first email. We corrected the HTML formatting and resent the email.

Spelling Mistake (MasterCard missing an 's'). Thank you for pointing this out. We will correct the mistake if we need to send out further emails.

I've just had the same e-mail asking for-

One that shows your Address and one that shows your Identity.

No way am I sending these details to get 5 euros. Not worth the risk imho
