Freezing moles

I have to have a couple of large moles removed from my back. I have been told they will freeze them.

Could someone tell me what this involves please and do injections come into the equation?

(When I saw my doctor she just said she was referring me to the minor ops doctor so I didn't ask any questions but when they sent through a letter with my appointment it said the practice nurse will freeze them)

Thanks

It just tingles a bit - they fall off after about 3 weeks. If they haven't fallen off by the time of your next appointment, they will blast them again and that will certainly do it. Usually, if they very large, they will cut them out using an injection. You won't feel a thing.

Had this done on a couple a few years ago - no needles with freezing. They just aim a blast of frozen gas at the mole until it is frozen through. It stings a bit but it's not to bad and it went a bit red afterwards. When the mole thawed it was all soft and spongy. It scabbed over and fell off a few weeks later. One left a small brown mark, the other vanished completely.

Thanks for both of your replies. I assume I won't be able to go swimming for a few weeks - I usually go 3 times a week

You would have to ask the nurse but I don't see why not. There is no open wound and no stitches. Mine were on my neck and there was no need for any type of dressing.

The frozen mole just dries up gradually and falls off.

Lolly, are they on your face or body? And is it for cosmetic or health purposes? Just wondered as I am wanting a couple of large moles taken off my face but am worried about scarring (which happened to one taken off when I was a teenager).

I have had several done on my back and side, no injections just a stingy cold for a few seconds, its not bad then they fall off within a couple of weeks all of mine that I have had removed have left a pale patch that wont tan but its no problem cos its still better than the moles, I freeze small ones I dont like myself with the freeze stuff you buy in Boots and its exactly the same, however I am not suggesting you do this and of course alsways get moles checked by a specialist:)

My moles are on my back but I have had moles removed by a dermatologist on my face. He did a wonderful job and it is almost impossible to see where they were. However I did have a couple removed on my stomach at the surgery about 15 years ago and you can still see the marks where the stitches are.

Flippin36: I would try to get referred to a dermatologist/plastic surgeon if you have large moles on your face. My doctor was sympathetic about referring me. However I am not bothered about the ones on my back as I can't see them. I have had moles removed 5-6 times but have never had them frozen off.

Could you tell me what the 'freeze stuff' is called that you get in Boots - I would like to try it on some skin tags if it is suitable

Hi, its called Wartner wart removal and I believe that Boots do their own version as well but don't quote me on that, I tried to use it on skin tags as well but it didn't work at all but obviously everyone is different it certainly didn't do any harm. I actually pulled the skin tags off with tweezers in the end, disgusting I know and a huge amount of blood considering how small they were but once healed (a few days) they were gone with no mark and never to return:T I would also just like to point out that I have my moles regularly checked by a dermatologist as I have a lot of them, some of them are not actually moles but a type of hereditary wart that looks the same as moles but they are safe to remove myself, gosh I sound attractive don't I:rotfl:Before anyone complains I am not advocating that anyone does any of the above just saying what worked for me;)
