Carribean wedding - cheap - where to start?

Hi all,

We're looking to get married in the Caribbean next year (hopefully if we can save the money). Now the preference would be Tobago, but it looks a nightmare to get anything reasonably priced as only Virgin and BA seem to do holidays there. Can anyone offer any tips on how to arrange it as cheaply as possible (if anyone has done it before).

Also, we're a bit daunted by the whole wedding organisation thing and were wondering if it was best to go to a registry office in the UK before the flight and get hitched in secret then flit abroad asap? We don't want any friends/family, just a very private ceremony between two of us. Or is it not as bad as it seems to get married over there whilst we're away.

The reason that it needs to be cheap is because we have two cats and can't face leaving them for two whole weeks, hence we need 7 days (which is only marginally cheaper than 14 from what I can gather). Our plan is to go there for 7 days then book a cottage in the UK for another seven days and take the cats with us.

Fab idea!

We got married in Barbados, stayed there for a week and then went to Tobago for a week. Our wedding package was free when staying at the hotel for 7days+. The wedding organiser was fab, everything was done for us, down to the flowers, music, cake and organising the taxi into town to get the licence. All I had to sort out was my dress! :T

It was organised through Virgin and considering it was included in the the price of a 2 week all-inclusive holiday, it was very good value.
