I hope this is the right board to be asking, appologies if it isnt
I'm hoping somebody will be able to give me some advice on cleaning some jewellery i have. I bought a pair of earrings and 2 necklaces a couple of months before Christmas, and i have wore them all about once or twice over Christmas and not since. When i put them away they were all still silver in colour. However, i noticed the other day that the 2 silver coloured necklaces had both gone a sort of copper colour, i assume they have tarnished? The silver dangly earrings have also gone this colour but only at the very bottom, i assume where it has been touching my skin.
The problem i have is that i dont think they are all solid sterling silver. I bought them because i really loved the design, and still do, and i cant seem to find any 'non' costume jewelllery that is as nice. One necklace says it is silver plated but i dont know what the other necklace or earrings are made of, all i know is they are silver in colour.
Does anybody have any ideas how i could try to clean them? I was thinking of getting some silver jewellery cleaner but im not sure how harsh they are and i dont want the silver plating to come off and ruin 1, and im not sure what it would do on just silver coloured items as they probably arent even silver?
I cant understand why they've suddenly gone all brown. The items ive not worn yet are still sparkling so it is definiately my perfume or skin that has had an effect!!

An easy way of cleaning jewellery is to soak in a bowl of water with a little washing up liquid, and then rub gently with a soft toothbrush. You can clean all jewellary like this, but be gentle with silver plated because if you scrub too hard, you can remove some of the plating. If you have any precious stones in the jewellary, you will prob have to use a special jewellery cleaner.
Dry gently, can put the jewellery on a towel and dry with a hairdryer on a low heat!!!!0 -

I've found toothpaste very good for cleaning costume and plate jewellery, you put a tiny dab on a soft cloth and rub gently, never hard or the plate will come off. It gets rid of most marks and buffs up lovely and shiny.0

Thanks for all your help :j I decided to go for the least harsh option first then work my way up if it didnt work. Anyway, i used a bowl of washing up liquid and liquid soap to try and clean it. Most of the stain has come off but isnt half as noticeable.
Thanks for all your advice!0
