Hi All
My Dad needs some advice and I said I'd post his message on this forum because you're all so helpful (am also posting it on the Mortgages forum as I wasn't sure which one to use). Basically he can't get a current account, credit card or a loan due to various reasons. Please help:
I could do with some help, I have been turned down from opening a current account by three different banks ( HSBC, First Direct and Alliance & Leicester ) and this morning I learned that I wasn't wanted by a credit card company that had invited me to apply through my trade union but they stated that I didn't earn enough, they didn't get my salary from me and I know that I earn enough ( I earn £27,800 with london weighting + I take home £ 1,360 per month from my fire brigade pension ) I'm told this is the equivilent to earning over 50k per year, I changed my mortgage last July ( it's now £120,000 ) I've not missed a payment, I bought my car on finance fifteen months ago ( £6500 ) I've not missed a payment on that, I'm not behind with any payments ( water rates, poll tax, gas, electric). All my financial problems date back to the time that I came out of the fire brigade, and yes, I did have a problem then including mortgage and credit cards, but I have repayed ALL debts that where incurred and all the financial penalties incurred by those debts have all been cleared. I feel that I have more than payed back all my debts quite literally and I can't understand why no one will give me chance being as I can show that I've pulled myself up by my bootlaces and got back on my feet.
Thanks All!

When did these problems occur?
Your dad can get a copy of his credit report/file from equifax or experian and this will show what state his credit is in. It could be an error on it or just because there hasnt been enough time since the credit problems.
Another reason could be just the credit scoring but I think the best bet would be to start with requesting a copy of his credit file.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. How long ago have these debts been cleared?
Have you applied for a copy of your credit file from Equifax or Experian to see if there is anything wrong on there?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Thanks all for replying - the debt problems started to occur about 8 years ago, debts all cleared around 2002/2003....
Any thoughts?0 -
your credit file resets after 3 years I think, however CCJ's and those kind of things are longer than this. Were they just defaulst or were they CCJ's?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
