Heard a rumour that all gyms were going to be free to everyone for classes, gym and swimming before 5pm - and it's true!
You just need to go to your local leisure centre and get a Leisure Card (about a £1) to have the above access. Think it is a trial scheme running until next year - check out www.birmingham.gov.uk for more information
