String Quartet

Hey guys. I'm hoping you can help me
I'm setting up a string quartet, and at some point in the future, we hope to play at weddings. At the moment, we're just trying to build up some repertoire. I think we've thought of all the basics, as musicians we know the classical pieces that would be expected. I was wondering, however, what other music did you have at your wedding? Whether it be a pianist, soloist, SQ, whatever. What songs have you found popular at other weddings you've attended? Eva Cassidy seems to be popular, as do the old classics - Cole Porter, Gershwin, The Beatles.
Thanks in advance!
Helen

I would expect most people booking a string quartet for their wedding are likely to want you to play the traditional classics with a few arrangements of some of the more modern stuff you mention. That has been my experience of string quartets at weddings.
Perhaps you could prepare a few more unusual or outrageous numbers such a “Another one bites the dust” but you are probably going to have to be prepared to learn whatever it is the customer wants you to play. That shouldn’t be difficult if you are all classically trained.
Check out the repertoire of other string quartets who do weddings. Here is one:

Google for more.
Good luck.

Hi,
Where abouts are you based and what would your going rates be? I'll be very interested in booking you for a wedding in 2012.

You could do a couple of weddings for free and ask for honest and constructive feedback from the couple, the venue and even possibly some guests.
All good feedback could be used as testimonials on your website (if you have one) which I have found to be invaluable when trying to organise a wedding.
I live in Edinburgh but I am getting married in Antrim so have not been able to listen to bands, organists or string quartets etc in person so having a webiste along with samples and testimonials has helped me select my band etc.....0
