I've been sold a fake dvd?

Hi,

I have just received a dvd I won on ebay and it is a very obvious fake. Was I being naive in expecting a genuine copy and what would anyone suggest I do? My plan was to watch the dvd and then relist but obviously I won't do it now.

Post the auction number - there may be clues in there that the DVD isn't genuine. If it is a copy, personally I would contact the seller, tell him this and ask for a refund.

Hi, I'm not sure about posting the item number as I bought it using my seller i.d which has a huge raft of (genuine!) listings at the moment.

The dvd listing included a list of the episodes and that it was in good condition, that was all.

Some of the giveaways of fakes is:

"Comes in a clear plastic wallet/case"

"Please contact me if you don't understand what you are buying"

Contact him to se what he says, and ask for a refund.

You really need to see the ad to determine what exactly was said/advertised. Shouldn't really matter if your id is on display and you are apparently selling genuine articles on eBay. We don't know you anymore than anyone on eBay.

There were a few of these DVD/CD fake issues some time ago on this forum and I seem to remember little sippetts mentioned in the ad that said stuff like "perfect copy" or "comes in VCD format on 2 CDs".

I also seem to remember someone selling copies of new music CDs in this way and when you looked through their feedback they had sold a few hundred discs from various artists in a short space of time, all with 100% +ve feedback.

I got one of these a while ago and contacted the seller to say I would never have bid if I'd known it was a copy.

He seemed to genuinely believe that it wasn't a copy (it was) and refunded all my money inc. postage. I watched the film and sent it back !

If it was a new release and you paid less than £10 for it, then you can guarantee it's fake.

You usually find loads of Buy It Nows on DVD for about £3, advertised as no artwork, comes in plastic wallet etc. etc.

The other thing to look out for is the Region that it's advertised as.
If it's Region 1 or 2 then you should be relatively safe.
If it's Region 3, cheap and new then it's a fake.

I've had 2 come through that were Region 3 and were evidently not kosher. But, having only paid about £3 for them, it was kind of what I expected.

That said, the quality was still as if it were the real deal.

Sorry to disagree with this but I've recently sold a brand new release for less than £10 - it was genuine!!

When I look for DVDs on ebay, I always search for used CDs - your more likely to find genuine films. It's not fool proof though.

If I'm really not sure, I ask the seller a very nice question and apologise for asking. If it's real - they will have no problem letting you know.
