Husbands business debts

Hello - Newbie here!!

I need some advice please......

Story so far, husband had own business until last October, (not a ltd company) has quite a few big debts outstanding to suppliers who are now hounding him for payments. He had made payment arrangements with them all (which were upto date) but he has now been made redundant from a job he only had for 3 months.

I only work part time. My pay just about covers the mortgage etc.

We've contacted the companies who he owes money to but they are'nt being very sypathetic, we really can't pay them anything. (I've got a tenner left until I get paid on 1st October) It really is that bad.

They are threatening him with the bailiffs, I know through reading earlier posts that they can't enter my property unless invited. But it's really worrying. If they did what would they take - How do they know what belongs to my husband and what is mine or is everything taken as being owned by both of us? So many questions.

Any advice?

    Hi Jenn and welcome

Not sure I can give you much advice but regarding the debts I think it would be worth talking to business debtline - or looking on their website http://www.bdl.org.uk/

Also regarding baliffs this is a very good website - http://www.bailiffadviceonline.co.uk/. But essentially the message is not to let people in your house. Sometimes debt collectors turn up giving you the impression that they are baliffs but who are doorstop debt collectors. You can tell these people to leave your property immediatley or you will call the police - these guys have no rights at all.
