Advice please on trying to reclaim bank charges to try to reduce a debt

Hello, i didnt know if this query would be better here or the bank charge reclaim forum but thought it might be better answered here.
I have 2 debt to Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) one for £3349.15 & the other for £342.57. The larger of the amounts is in the hands of Wescot credit services, who are sending me the usual letters. The smaller of the two debts i am just being sent statements from RBS but not harrased for payment (both debts show as defaults on my credit file).
A large amount of the monies owing by myself on theses debts is made up from bank charges. I am looking to start paying off these debts but obviously i would like to get the figure as small as possible before i begin tackling it.
Should i write to RBS direct (even although Wescot is dealing with one of the debts) agreeing to pay the debt less the charges or should i go down the path of trying to get charges taken off my account officially (ie filling a charge recovery letter) and then begin paying off remaining amount once they have been removed from the account.
Any help greatly appreciated as usual.
Regards
Craig

Hi
I would go down the official route using the template letters to claim back the charges. We are going to be starting this process soon too.
