Lakeland Yogurt Maker - Anyone got instructions?

Hi Guys

BM on. Washing on line. Soup blended for lunch. - so far so good:rolleyes:

Inherited Lakeland Yogurt maker - but it came with no instructions. Eat masses of the stuff so I'd like to make it at home - no gums, emulsifiers and sneaky sugars.

Can anyone help with the basics?

Try contacting Lakeland. They are very good about customer services in my experience. If you email them giving exact model you might get a downloadable instruction booklet which you can print off.
    Good luck.

They have very nicely just refunded me for a product I wasn't happy with - sent a cheque, excellent customer service.
TBH i go by the instructions that were on the yoghurt making thread, a couple of tablespoons live yoghurt, a litre of UHT milk and a couple of spoons of dried milk powder if you want it thicker, then plug it in for about 8 hours. The dial at the top is to remindyou what time you need to turn it off. If you have got the one I have!

Thanks Guys - I'll go find the other thread and get some put on.

Let you know how I get on - but I'm looking forward to a yogurt smoothie for breakfast tomorrow

By the way I LOVE frozen smoothies - can you freeze yogurt in ice cube trays to use to get the same effect?

I've got one of these, but not sure where I've put the instructions:rolleyes:

I do the same as Halloweenqueen, although I leave mine for 10-12 hours.Any longer and it goes a bit funny!

I do remember the instructions recommended UHT milk.I've never had any luck with heating up whole milk and letting it cool to the required temp.Probably because it doesn't need 12 hour to yog when it's already warm. You don't need to heat UHT milk, just pour it in.I'd definitely recommend adding milk powder(I use Tesco value) as it does make it thicker and richer without adding too many calories.I use semi-skimmed milk.HTH
  • I have them here - if you are using UHT (recommended by me!) just put 2 dessert spoons of natural yog in the container stir in 900ml of UHT (I actually put the full litre in) Place lid on top, plug in and leave for 8 hours then chill....as you'd guess I have picked out the main points.

I use ours every other day and the points I've noted are if the milk is very cold you'll need to 'cook' for longer and if you strain it through muslin it makes a greek style yog, if you stain it overnight you get a cream cheese (Philly type) that you can use for cheesecakes. I also use whole milk not skimmed because, as you'd expect, it's creamier.

I had a go the cream cheese and it turned out really well, I'd do it again.

I do roughly the same as everyone else.

In a jug pour in a litre carton of UHT milk (I use semi-skimmed but have also used skimmed)

Add 3 rounded tablespoons of dried skimmed milk (I use Tesco's)

Add 3 good tablespoons of the yoghurt starter (when starting I use a greek yoghurt and then following mixes I use yoghurt from the previous batch).

    Whisk it all together

Pour up to the litre mark in the yoghurt maker inner container (you can turn the machine itself on 5 minutes before to start warming it up)

Pop into the machine. Put the top on and turn dial to time when it will be ready. I put mine on at bed time and turn it off in the morning ... so it can be 8 / 10 / 12 hours later. Put in the fridge and chill.

You will find that you have small amount of the mix left in your jug. OH sees this as the perks of yoghurt making (a nice yummy drink) when he doesn't actually make the yoghurt!

    Thanks Guys

Yogurt was made this morning - smoothies for b'fast (Yog, honey, almond and banana)

    Apple and yog for 11's

Raitha with homemade potato and pea curry (manky pots - the sprouty kind- and frozen peas)- with the most fabulous mini nan breads (Flour, Baking Powder, yog and cumin seeds) Rolled out to 10mm thick and grilled until brown and puffy. Something about hmade bread :-)

Apart from that - my first foray into yogurt making wasn't really a success -LOL

Erm - theres another pot on for the morning :-)

Thanks Guys - you are better than having Delia around
