Afternoon all
I did search the forum (honest!) but couldn't see anything about this.
I've found a tin of red kidney beans in a chilli sauce lurking at the back of the cupboard. Am going to make some beef chilli with it but will want to freeze some as I'm the only one in the house that eats it. Can you freeze these?
Also, just in case anyone has any good recipe ideas, wouldn't mind doing a veggie chilli. What would you throw in it?
Sorry to ask what are silly questions but I'm trying to go old-style, being frugal etc and I don't want to waste anything by doing the wrong thing with it. Have a few things in cupboard I'm a bit perplexed as to what to do with so I may be back!!
Thanks!!

I frequently use tins of kidney beans in chilli and freeze (not sure whether you should or not - not something I had thought about just did it oops) Kate :hello:0

Nothing bad can happen to beans in the freezer, or indeed any other food.
Veggie chilli -I just add more beans! I use two or three kinds and probably peppers, carrots, mushrooms and sweetcorn too.0 -
I've found there's very few things you can't freeze (lettuce, maybe!:p), so tinned kidney beans should be fine - I've frozen chilli made with tinned beans loads of times and never found it a problem.
After lots of experimentation, I now make veg chilli by frying chopped onion and green pepper with garlic and cumin seeds, then add a few big handfuls of red lentils, a tin of tomatoes, a tin of kidney beans (rinsed, as I use the ones in brine), dried chilli flakes, veg stock and some black pepper. Leave to simmer for about 45 mins, stirring occasionally. This makes enough for 3 to 4 meals for me, depending on how piggy I'm feeling!Back after a very long break!0 -
We've made chili using tinned kidney beans and then frozen it, reheating it on another day. We haven't had any problems with it. It should be fine.
We don't have many veg meals, so I really don't have any suggestions for that, sorry.MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0 -

I have frozen tinned Kidney Beans and Baked Beans, but find that they are softer when they are thawed out. Just don't stir them too much when cooking or they break up quite easily.."When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us" Alexander Graham Bell0

Buying the little tins isn't very MSE but there is only me so a big tin is no use. Think I feel an experiment coming on.0 -
Can't see a problem with freezing these. I have used them in turkey chilli (which I always make after Christmas) and frozen loads of that and it's always been fine. I don't think there's really all that much that it's a complete disaster to freeze. I think most things are probably worth a try rather than waste them.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

Question in title...dh opened in error yesterday thinking the tin of beans was a tin of tomatos. I don;t really want to use them any time soon!0

i freeze cooked kidney beans and half used cans of chickpeas so can't think why not - rinse the gunk off and pop in a bag!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
