re-using regular batteries and disposable razors

Have just seen in a catalogue a couple of possible eco-friendly ideas. One is a charger to recharge regular ('non-rechargable') batteries. (Yes I know you'll say why not just use rechargables, but some items specifically say not to use that type of battery).
The other is a sharpener that allegedly sharpens 'disposable' razors.
They both sound like good ideas but then again they are offered in a catalogue that also sells things like 'age-spot remover' and all that kind of stuff, so could be complete rubbish. Has anyone ever tried either of these things?

I have a charger called Re-Zap battery engineer, which I bought because it claimed that "ordinary" batteries could be recharged. In the majority of cases, it works ok., and you can obviously put re-chargables in there too.0

Hi, I have a special battery charger that recharges normal throw away batteries. I have tried doing this and the performace of these batteries when re-charged are awful and a waste of time. The only way of getting a bit of use is to recharge them when they are half drained then use them again. Even then you can only do it about 5 times before they are useless, and they drain very fast if left in a draw. Normal rechargeable batteries (Nickel Metal Hydride) are worth the investment, and there are new ones out that hold their charge if left in a draw.0 -
I'm assuming here that you are thinking about this because blades are very expensive for some razors (e.g. Mach 3). Why not change your razor? I've gone for a Wilkinson Double Edged razor (got it from Boots, only a couple of quid) - blades are only about 15p each from them compared to £2.50 upwards for a mach 3 blade.troglodyte wrote: »The other is a sharpener that allegedly sharpens 'disposable' razors.
They last quite a while, but cos they are so cheap, I just throw them away at the first sign of bluntness. As they are 100% steel (i.e. no plastic or foam) they could in theory be recycled.
Then you wouldn't have to even bother thinking about sharpening blades with a device which probably doesn't work.0
