Bank Accounts

Hi
I am looking for some advice, I have had a payplan account for 2 years now and owe approx 11k. My credit file is pretty bad as it has about 5 defaults on it and 1 ccj which is satisfied. I have a basic account with Alliance and Leicester but it offers no debit card facility which would be really useful to me at the moment but I dont wan to have lots of credit searches against my name now, does anyone have any advice about a bank account which would give me a debit card facility?
Thanks

I have the most basic bank account that was available with Natwest. It's called a step-account. There were no credit checks. You get a debit card (solo). I know many people don't like solo but I've never had a problem. It is more widely accepted nowadays both in shops and online.

I am with Payplan. I set an account up with First Direct - Internet banking and have the Maestro/solo card/cheque book.

Maybe they can help too. You can apply on-line.

Same with Woolwich, although they give you electron. Think about which card you want as electron and solo are not accepted everywhere. I have the electron, but have never had a problem with people accepting it. Not sure what solo is like for that...

I just got a new account with First Direct, which came with Maestro Card, and also a Credit Card (which I didn't ask for but they offered - so transferred some debt to 0%). So if they offer to me with my level of debt, you have a great chance!
Just adding up my debts, it's about £90K - OMG:eek:
